An Intimate Kitchen Garden Wedding at River Cottage Devon

River Cottage brings all of the Devon charm to life and it was so much fun to photograph…

When you think of Devon, you may imagine pretty chocolate-box cottages, rolling hills, vegetable gardens and cosy interiors. Well, River Cottage truly brings this idealistic vision to life! As you wander down the hill towards the cottage, it’s like you’re stepping into simpler, slower times; passing orchards full to the brim with apples, wandering through the beds of leeks, corn and cabbages, with cattle grazing alongside you in the fields.

Laura and Nick were married at River Cottage on a warm September day and it was my pleasure to be their wedding photographer. Their wedding was filled with florals, feasting and quality family time - all the good stuff! With only around 15 guests, it was such a beautiful intimate day and it allowed them to really focus on their nearest and dearest.

They both got ready in separate rooms inside, which made it really easy for me to capture moments of both the bridal and groomsmen preparations. They were then married in the Kitchen Garden in front of the cottage with the scent of sweet peas in the air. It featured beautifully hand written vows followed by a candle lighting ceremony, and I just loved the floral arch created by Meadowsweet Flowers and Floristry in pastel blues, soft pinks and peachy tones too.

Their ceremony was followed by garden games and cocktails before their candlelit wedding breakfast in the farmhouse. River Cottage is of course known for its incredible homegrown produce and recipes, so it was lovely to see the meal introduced by one of their chefs. While they ate, I captured the most beautiful golden evening light cast over the hills which made the scenery look even more breathtaking! The evening was finished with candlelit coffee, cake, lots of dancing and a fabulous gin and rum bar.

Laura was such a wonderfully creative Bride, and she crafted so many of the details for their day. From her hand written and embroidered invitations, to the place name embroidery hoops and pretty blue napkins - every single element had been carefully planned down too the last detail and it was so dreamy to capture.
